Elegant Showcase

14870 Edgewater Drive

The 2024 Designing for Dyslexia Show House event, a Tuscaloosa/Northport premier to support education for dyslexic students, will showcase a Brian Hurd and WB Construction Company, LLC home in the new Tuscaloosa Lake waterfront community of Edgewater. Recipient of the Tuscaloosa Home Builders Association's 2023 Home Builder of the Year Award, they have contributed entry to their 14870 Edgewater Drive, family-centered retreat. Tuscaloosa’s top interior designers have been invited to provide the furnishings and décor that will make this this home a delight to tour, to spark creativity, and to imagine owning where land and lake meet.

The Designing for Dyslexia Show House event was inspired and organized by Interior Designer Jenny Lee who has curated a rustic-luxe style home, blending traditional design with modern elements and earthy textures to create a welcoming lakeside dwelling. This perfectly named Edgewater site combines lakeside enjoyment with residential beauty, comfort, and spaciousness.

The long, meandering driveway leads to a home enveloped by the natural environment of a wooded 2.4-acre lot and offers stunning panoramic views of the lake. With exterior features of gabled roofs, a stone façade, and copper accents, the clean-cut front entrance contrasts with the traditionally inspired architecture.

The interior of the home complements the exterior design with a consistent use of stone elements on both the main and daylight lower levels. The foyer leads to a stunning living room featuring a stone fireplace, vaulted ceiling, white oak exposed beams, and beautiful lake vistas. The two-story windows offer a glimpse of the covered porches that extend along the entire length of the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom. The use of the Viewrail modern glass railing system ensures that the views are prioritized and the viewing safe.

The home’s main level is designed to accommodate more than one family, with two primary suites offering stunning lake scenes from both bedrooms and their en suite bathrooms. The home is perfect for entertaining with its open floor plan, that includes the kitchen, dining room, living room, powder room, and outdoor cooking area. The kitchen features a charming combination of stone, marble, and brass accents, and is equipped with a 60'' Wolf range, built-in Subzero refrigerator, and all the conveniences needed in a modern kitchen. The dining area includes a dry bar area with an under-counter icemaker, beverage and wine coolers. The hidden pantry is a unique feature that provides additional food preparation space when entertaining. Additionally, a special coat and cubby area with a built-in desk adds more function to a nearby laundry room complete with a farmhouse sink, custom cabinetry, and an additional refrigerator. And families and guests will have ample parking space with the 3-car garage and exterior motor court area.

As water borders home on three sides, the lake views can be seen from almost every room. The main and lower-level porches not only overlook the lake but also the custom-designed infinity edge pool, with a built-in spa and sun shelf. Added fire features for nighttime enjoyment including a firepit area, offer serene views of the water and an inviting space to watch the sun set. With artificial turf surrounding the pool and basement porches, the property looks manicured and green in all seasons. And as entry from land to lake, the boat dock delivers direct access to many types of water activities on beautiful Lake Tuscaloosa.

The carefully designed flow between levels entices guests to descend a staircase that opens to a spacious billiard/den area. This room can accommodate multiple seating areas or gaming activities and leads into an additional media room/bar space. The media room is equipped with a sound system, large screen television, and a wet bar area featuring an icemaker, beverage cooler, and bar height seating area for guests. Both areas were designed to ensure that guests can enjoy interior and exterior entertainment equally. This lower level also includes three bedrooms with private bathrooms (one of which has six custom built-in bunk beds), a powder room, and a laundry room with a commercial ice maker for outdoor needs, as well as space for an additional refrigerator. Separate from the living space, the lower level includes a safe room and large storage area, complete with a double-door entry for exterior access.

The striking, architectural features of this edge-of-water home are the structural elements that support an expansive canvas for the bountiful, interior designer provided embellishments . Together they will charm, engage and gratify all who support The Designing for Dyslexia Show House.
